What are dentures?
Dentures are removable prosthetics that replace your permanent teeth and surrounding tissues. They can restore one tooth, several teeth, or an entire row of teeth. They sit comfortably on top of your gums, making it easier to bite, chew, and speak.
Dentures Sherman Oaks look similar to your natural teeth. They’re easy to clean and, with proper care, can often last 5-7 years or longer.
What are the types of dentures?
At Sherman Oaks Smile Studio, Dr. Zarabian and the team offer several types of dentures, including:
  • Partial dentures
If you’re only missing one or two permanent teeth, Dr. Zarabian recommends partial dentures. A partial denture has a metal frame, similar to a retainer, and several artificial teeth. The frame attaches to small clasps that Dr. Zarabian bonds to your healthy teeth.
  • Complete dentures
If you’ve lost all of the permanent teeth in your upper or lower arch, Dr. Zarabian recommends complete dentures. Complete dentures have pink gums made of acrylic or plastic and a row of false teeth. You apply denture glue to the bottom to prevent them from moving out of place.
  • Implant-supported dentures
If you’re missing most of your teeth but don’t want to remove your dentures regularly, consider implant-supported dentures.
Implant-supported dentures are complete dentures that attach to dental implants.
What is the process for getting dentures?
At Sherman Oaks Smile Studio, getting dentures takes at least two visits.
  • First dentures visit
Dr. Niki Zarabian reviews your dental records, performs an oral exam, and takes a series of 3D digital X-rays. If you’re missing two or more permanent teeth and want a long-lasting replacement option, you qualify for dentures. Dr. Zarabian takes digital impressions of your mouth and sends them to a nearby denture lab. Techs at the lab then design and manufacture a custom set of dentures that fit perfectly.
  • Second dentures visit
About a week later, when the lab finishes your dentures, you return to Sherman Oaks Smile Studio. You try the dentures on, and Dr. Zarabian makes adjustments, ensuring a comfortable fit. She also explains how to clean and care for your dentures.
How to maintain dentures?

To keep your dentures in optimal condition, it’s crucial to maintain them. Take your dentures out after meals and snacks and rinse them in cool tap water. If you have partial dentures, brush your existing healthy teeth twice daily. At night, take your dentures out and soak them in an approved cleaning solution. This will extend their lifespan and reduce the buildup of plaque and food particles.
