What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment designed to straighten your teeth and jaw. Instead of using brackets and archwires, like traditional braces, Invisalign enhances your smile with a series of clear, removable aligners.

Invisalign aligners fit snugly over your teeth. They’re made from a material called SmartTrack® that’s free of latex, gluten, and BPA, making treatment safe for pregnant people and individuals with allergies.

What types of alignment problems can Invisalign correct?

At Sherman Oaks Smile Studio, Dr. Zarabian and the team use Invisalign to correct various alignment problems, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding
  • Overlapping teeth
  • A misaligned jaw
  • Spaces between teeth

The team also uses Invisalign to treat bite abnormalities, such as crossbite, overbite, and underbite.

What does treatment with Invisalign involve?

At Sherman Oaks Smile Studio, Invisalign treatment begins with a review of your dental records, a discussion of what you like and dislike about your smile, and a comprehensive oral exam. Dr. Zarabian also takes X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

If you can benefit from treatment, Dr. Zarabian takes digital impressions of your mouth and uploads them to an Invisalign design program. The program allows her to map out the step-by-step movements of your teeth and jaw, speeding up the treatment process.

After finalizing your treatment plan, Dr. Zarabian sends it to an Invisalign lab. Technicians at the lab use your scans to manufacture a series of custom aligners that fit perfectly.

During treatment, you visit Sherman Oaks Smile Studio every few weeks. At each Invisalign checkup, Dr. Zarabian monitors your progress and provides you with a new set of aligners that place slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw.

Once you achieve the desired results, Dr. Zarabian has you switch to an orthodontic retainer. A retainer prevents your teeth from returning to their original position.

How long does orthodontics with Invisalign take?

The time that orthodontics with Invisalign takes depends on various factors, including your age, the issues treated, and your commitment to Dr. Zarabian’s care plan. Some people complete treatment in 12 months*, but it may take 18 months or longer.
